Highlights
The magnificent Naqsh-e-Jahan Square is the historic centre of Isfahan and the place where locals come to relax. Around the square is the exquisite Sheik Lotfollah mosque, the larger (and bluer) Imam Mosque and the covered bazaar where you can see artisans at work and an array of fine Persian carpets. The Forty Columns Palace has beautiful frescoes and has a lovely garden to stroll around and Vank Cathedral in the Armenian quarter is an exotic blend Christian and Islamic art. Enjoy a refreshing drink in cool tea houses tucked beneath medieval bridges and visit a Fire Temple and some shaking minarets.

About the tour
Iran is a beautiful, gracious and cultured land that extends a warm welcome to travellers. Starting in Tehran, visit many of the capital’s superb museums to see some of the treasures of the Peacock Throne. Fly to Shiraz, known as the “City of Roses, Nightingales and Poetry” and visit its exquisite teahouses and gardens. At Persepolis, there is the vast and awesome ruined city that was the pride of ancient Persia, the largest empire that the world had then seen. Travel to Isfahan, an ancient city known as “Half the World.” This elegant blue tiled city is a beautiful sight against under the clear desert skies (see highlights). On to Yazd, the birthplace of Zoroastrianism and where many still practice this ancient religion. Throughout the tour Lavinia Byrne will give a series of illuminating talks examining aspects of contemporary Iran and bringing the past back to life.
