Tour duration
Twelve nights cruising the Mediterranean and North Africa aboard the luxurious Azamara Journey, visiting Athens - Mykonos - Israel - Jerusalem - Cairo - Alexandria - Sorrento - Rome, plus a two night optional extension in Rome.
About the tour
Fly to Athens from Heathrow and cruise to Mykonos (pictured left) in Greece and continue onto the island of Rhodes to visit the Auberges of the Knights of St John. Cruise through the Mediterranean to Haifa in Israel for a private shore excursion, then continue onto Jerusalem to explore the historic city. Continue onto Port Said for Cairo, and spend a day on a shore visit that takes in the many attractions of the city. Continue up the coast to the ancient port of Alexandria (pictured above) where you will visit the spectacular new library of Alexandria, the Biblioteca Alexandrina, and follow in the footsteps of Lawrence Durrell on a walking tour. After two days at sea, during which you will hear lectures and enjoy the excellent facilities on board the Azamara, stop off at Sorrento in Italy and visit the Naples Museum. Spend the following day at the extraordinary site of Pompeii, and sail back to Rome the next day to disembark and board your flight for London. Alternatively, take the two day medical history extension to Rome.
On the special interest medical history extension to Rome, spend two days exploring this vibrant and historic city, with its many ancient monuments and its cosmpolitan contemporary life. During the extension, you will visit various sites of medical and historical interest in the company of specialist guides.
