About the tour

Lisbon is a city that effortlessly blends traditional heritage with striking modernism and progressive thinking - it boasts a literary heritage matched by few other capitals in Europe. The city`s setting is unparalleled and extremely photogenic, sprawling across steep hills overlooking the River Tagus. Bohemian in character, Lisbon is home to Gothic cathedrals, majestic monasteries, fascinating museums, palaces and libraries. Besides its glorious landmarks the city is also home to Bertrand's – the world`s oldest bookshop. It first opened in 1732, was destroyed by the Lisbon earthquake of 1755 and rebuilt a short time later in the spot where it can be found today.

The combination of rich history and culture, beautiful architecture, vibrant social scene and a long literary heritage, as well as a glorious year-round climate, makes Lisbon an enriching city for a CILIP tour.
