6 - 15 Jun 2023
  • Medical & Professional Tours

About the tour

Take a journey through medical history that wends from ancient Britain to the Romans, through the medieval period into the Renaissance and Enlightenment, ending in the modern day. This fascinating tour traces the many connections between England and America, from medical travellers and scientific exchanges to maritime connections and trade.

Learn about developments in medicine, the people behind them and aspects of modern healthcare through a series of specialist visits and talks. As well as London, the tour also visits some of England's most attractive and historic towns and cities, including Bath, Bristol, Worcester and Oxford, all at a beautiful time of year.

This tour has been developed in collaboration with the Worcester District Medical Society.

Stay in Worcester, which is twinned with Worcester MA and is where the British Medical Association was founded in 1832. In 2022 Worcester MA is celebrating their 300th anniversary and last year Worcester UK celebrated the 400th anniversary of the Charter issues by King James 1. While in Worcester meet with local doctors and medical historians.

The tour also looks at some notable medics, from Dr Jenner to Dr John Hall (Shakespeare's son in law), Dr Erasmus Darwin (grandfather of Charles) and the father of the dictionary, Dr Johnson. Alongside the medical visits there is a full range of cultural tours, memorable dining experiences and a partner programme.
